At Solihull Academy we strongly believe that the best place for our students to learn is in our centres with their dedicated staff team. We work hard to support good attendance and punctuality so that students can be in lessons making progress.

We recognise that there are times when exceptional circumstances may make this difficult. In such cases the SLT would take into careful consideration the individual context for a student and authorise for work packs to be sent home. We print these and provide the relevant stationary to families to support them with this. The packs will be taken to the student by the staff assigned to conduct their ‘safe and well’ visits or provided to parents/carers in the meeting at school where this is agreed.

In very rare cases we may offer tutoring at home – either face to face or online – delivered by our own staff or tutors from our partner schools or Tutor Doctor. Home tutoring is carefully monitored with the goal always being to get students back into school.  

We recognise that Remote Learning is challenging for our students and barriers such as IT equipment, reliable internet access and a quiet space to work need to be considered and steps taken to ensure they can be successful during this period.

If we were confident that the necessary equipment was available we can also use online platforms such as Sparx Maths and SENECA to provide students with work to do at home.
