Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

At Solihull Academy, we believe that Religious Education plays an important role in helping students develop an understanding of different faiths, beliefs, cultures and worldviews. Through RE, students are encouraged to explore issues that shape our society and gain the knowledge and understanding needed to become informed, respectful and well-rounded members of their communities.

In accordance with the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child, either wholly or partly, from Religious Education lessons.

Should you wish to withdraw your child from RE, we encourage you to discuss your concerns with the school before making a final decision. We are committed to supporting the wishes of parents and carers while ensuring they have a full understanding of the content, aims and educational value of the RE curriculum.

Students who are withdrawn from RE will be supervised and provided with appropriate alternative activities. However, the school is not required to provide alternative teaching, deliver content from other curriculum subjects, or incur additional costs as a result of the withdrawal.
